VAGINAL REJUVENATION / TIGHTENING
Childbirth, menopause, ageing and other natural factors changes the health and anatomy of Women’s vagina. Influencing factors are weight fluctuation and lifestyle.
The resulting effects (vaginal laxity, tightening, dryness, painful sex, vaginal atrophy, reduced sexual satisfaction, lichen sclerosis, stress incontinence, etc) profoundly affect the lives of women in a way that quite often is very difficult to share and discuss even with partners, the closest of friends or GP. So, women suffer in silence and accept this as being the norm.
Vaginal laxity or patulous vaginal entry (loose vagina) is a common complaint following vaginal childbirth especially those associated with large babies and perineal tears.
The cause of the vaginal laxity is a breakdown of the collagen and elastin fibres. Most collagen and elastin fibres are located underneath the epithelium (the superficial layer) of the skin or the vagina. The vagina ages in much the same way as the skin covering the rest of the body. During a vaginal childbirth and also by just getting older collagen fibres can get stressed, stretched and weakened.
Vaginal atrophy describes the condition when the vagina’s lining becomes thinner, drier and less elastic. This occurs due to declining levels of the hormone oestrogen. An atrophic vagina is often the source of great discomfort, owing to the lack of lubrication, causing general itching and dyspareunia (pain during sex).
Surprisingly, many women are not aware that there are available options to alleviate their discomfort or discontent related to the shape or function of their genital organs. These options include a variety of non-surgical and surgical tailored to each woman’s condition and needs.
1. Non-surgical vaginal rejuvenation:
At Skulpt clinic, this treatment could be achieved by using different techniques including BTL, Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP), Vaginal filler or combination of them.
These procedures focus on improving the pelvic floor tone aiming to treat and prevent vaginal laxity and urinary stress incontinence.
a. Non-surgical Vaginal rejuvenation using BTL: Treatment is provided with the Exilis Ultra 360 device (BTL Industries, Boston MA, USA). The BTL vaginal treatment is a painless, non-surgical, non-invasive treatment. The goal of the treatment is to increase the levels of friction and sensation during sexual intercourse. Also, the treatment is beneficial to incontinence and vaginal dryness. The BTL treatment increases the health and vitality of the vaginal tissue with help of targeted radiofrequency and ultrasound.
The BTL treatment is a one-time treatment of 20 minutes without any form or necessity for anaesthesia or recovery period. Using BTL, a small radio frequency probe is inserted into the vagina to heat the underlying tissue (lamina propria).
The Ultra Femme 360 device works by inserting a disposable probe into the vaginal canal, where the tip is moved along the whole length of the vaginal canal towards the cervix and back towards the opening. It is a painless and safe procedure. The tip of the device emits radiofrequency waves throughout the length of the vaginal canal. These waves penetrate deeply into the tissues in the vagina and gently elevate the temperature of the cells to over 40°C. This result in stimulation of fibroblast cells leading to the secretion of natural growth factors which subsequently lead to the production of new collagen and elastin fibres rejuvenating the whole length of the vaginal canal. It also helps to significantly increase blood flow and circulation in the area. As mentioned above, the procedure is painless; just a local feeling of warmth often described feeling similar to a hot stone massage.
Depending on the status of the vaginal looseness or vaginal laxity 1 to 3 treatments (with intervals of 4 to 6 weeks) are needed. Following the treatment, the regenerative process of the body is activated but the full result is built up gradually. On average the results are maximized within 60 to 90 days.
b. The vaginal tightening effect induced by BTL treatment could be enhanced by the use of the own person’s Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP). More information about PRP is provided in the section of Clitoral enhancement below. PRP is injected into or spread along the vaginal surface following one or more of the BTL treatments. PRP contains natural elements which our body use for natural healing process leading to production of collagen and increase of vascular supply to the treated area.
c. Vaginal laxity could also be addressed by using a long lasting French dermal filler called Desirial, produced specifically for this purpose. The filler is injected at Skulpt clinic under local anaesthetic cream.
2. Surgical vaginal tightening / Vaginoplasty
Vaginoplasty is a vaginal rejuvenation surgery that aims to correct the distension and loosening of the vaginal canal tissues and to recover the tightening and contraction capacity of the vaginal muscles.
Different types of vaginoplasty are performed depending on the site and severity of vaginal wall laxity or prolapse.
The procedure is undertaken under general or regional anaesthesia. Mr Abouzeid will arrange to undertake the procedure in an appropriate private hospital. One night overstay in hospital is usually required.
3. Clitoral and G-Spot amplification using PRP
Platelet-rich vaginal therapy to the Clitoris and G-Spot is a comprehensive, non-invasive, and in-office medical treatment that is designed to improve sexual pleasure and subsequently desire. The procedure will be comfortably administered by a licensed doctor who is trained in platelet-rich plasma injection therapies.
PRP Clitoral and G-Spot treatment works by using women’s own platelet rich plasma (PRP) to stimulate stem cells and growth factors to regenerate healthier vaginal tissue. Platelet-rich plasma extraction is completed in our clinic and takes less than 30min. The patient’s blood is drawn and placed in a centrifuge for 15 minutes to separate out the platelets.
After numbing the area with a local anaesthetic, the prepared platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is then injected under the mucosa into desired areas.
This plasma rich in platelets, stem cells, and growth factors is very useful for tissue regeneration and healing.
Clitoral and G-spot amplification (also called G-spot augmentation or the G-Shot) is a procedure intended to temporarily increase pleasure in sexually active women with normal sexual function, focusing on increasing the sensitivity of the clitoris and the G-spot.
The whole procedure for processing the blood and injecting the growth factors takes approximately an hour.
This procedure is offered for women who are unhappy with the size or appearance of their labia. In fact, women’s genitals naturally have a wide range of normal appearances that are all anatomically correct.
The labia are the ‘lips’ surrounding the vaginal entry. Surgery can be performed on the labia minora (the smaller, inner vaginal lips) or the labia majora (the larger, outer vulval labial lips).
Labiaplasty, or labial reduction, is a surgical treatment which can reduce the size of the labia, and also change its shape, typically making them smaller or correcting an asymmetry between them. It can be performed alone or with vaginoplasty.
Mr Abouzeid will arrange to undertake the procedure at an appropriate private hospital.
Labia reduction surgery takes about one hour. During surgery, the surgeon removes the excess tissue of the labia minora. Labiaplasty is usually done under general anaesthesia but occasionally, on request, could be done under local anaesthesia. Fine absorbable sutures are used which loosen within 3 weeks. Following surgery, you should be able to return home the same day. We advise you take 4 days off work following the procedure. It will take 2-3 weeks for the tissue swelling to subside.
We advise to abstain from sexual intercourse for 6 weeks following surgery. All risks will be discussed in your clinic consultation. In general, labiaplasty can occasionally result in bleeding, infection, and reduced sensitivity of the genitals.
5. Labial filler / puff
This procedure is designed to help women who are unhappy with the reduced size, shrunken or irregular shape of their labia majora. For some, it may seem like a trivial concern, but some women feel that their genitals are symbolic of their youth and sexual appeal. By rejuvenating the labia, that youthful look can be restored.
The labia majora consists of the outermost folds, or lips, surrounding the vaginal introitus.
With age we naturally lose collagen in our skin. As women age, the labia lose its laxity and it may take on a deflated appearance. Like any other part of the body, the labia are also subject to wrinkling. Women may particularly notice their labia changing after childbirth and during menopause. In some women this results in sagging, less voluminous appearance of their labia.
The wrinkling and laxity can be addressed by using a long lasting French dermal filler called Desirial, produced specifically for this purpose.
The procedure is also called the “labial puff”.
The labial puff also helps to conceal the labia minora from outside view, for a more proportioned appearance. It’s important to note that the labial puff is a form of labiaplasty, which involves the outer appearance of the vagina. Vaginoplasty, or vaginal rejuvenation, involves the surgical reconstruction or tightening of the vagina itself.
A numbing cream is applied to the labia, a tiny needle injects the solution. Following that the special labial filler is injected into the labial subcutaneous tissue.
Results last for up to two years.
For all above procedures, patient sexual satisfaction will be evaluated by the Female Sexual Distress Scale-Revised questionnaire (FSDS-R) and the degree of vaginal looseness will be measured by the Vaginal Laxity Questionnaire (VLQ) at the baseline and 90 days post treatments. Patient comfort during each procedure will be assessed using a Visual Analogue Scale (VAS).
Mr Abouzeid is an experienced gynaecologist. We can provide consultation at Skulpt for all gynaecological disorders or concerns. Options of management will be discussed, and appropriate treatment plan will be put in place.
